Montana Affordable Housing Information

  • In Montana, Fair Market Rent for a two-bedroom unit is $571
  • An extremely low income household (earning 30% of the AMI of $48,578) can afford monthly rent of no more than $364
  • A 3-person household receiving the maximum TANF grant can afford monthly rent of no more than $140
  • A minimum wage earner, earning $10,712 annually, can afford monthly rent of no more than $268
  • Fair market rent for a one-bedroom unit is $451
  • A household on SSI can afford monthly rent of no more than $174
  • A unit is considered affordable if it costs no more than 30% of the renter's income
  • 47% of renters in Montana are unable to afford Fair Market Rent for a two-bedroom unit
  • In Montana, a worker earning the State Minimum Wage ($5.15 per hour) has to work 85 hours per week in order to afford a two-bedroom unit at the area's Fair Market rent
